Defense Secretary Gates and Senator Ron Paul, MD (p86) finally agree on something: we MUST cut military spending... it is one of the few US expenses that is expendable, whereas payouts for services such as Medicare /aid are mandatory (in total claiming over half of our annual expenditure, see pie chart below).

In Top of the World!

While certainly not the official Top of the World, I was definitely on top of the world after climbing nearly a mile of twenty-percent grade. This is a PUBLIC road, one of two routes over a 1000ft tall ridgeline parallelling the Pacific. Welcome to Top of the World, CA.

Going down was more fun... MILES of descent glossed minutely after hourly hikes.

No broken wheel on the ride down, but plenty of photo ops.
