don't forget The Squeeze

Dear Alumni Association:
I was unable to load the college fair recuitment review link... rather, it loads briefly but is then promptly redirected to a "Google Custom Search" feature? Not sure what I could possibly be doing wrong here, but here is my successful re-take:
----
The students at the Ohlone College Fair were eager to talk about college life and perspectives. It was interesting to note that there is an entire occupation revolving around college fair recruitment; I may have been the only Alumni in the entire room =D

The students certainly appreciated a genuine reflection of my crazy college antics, as I kept reminding the students whose first question was "what is the average GPA" to pursue more worldly, well-rounded benchmarks. Parents shook their heads in agreement over quips of un-remembered averages, and the financial aid books were actually the FIRST item on my table to disappear (besides all three copies of the A&S guide... I ended up giving away the Engineering "TABLE COPIES" to students that could answer science-related questions, seeing as everything will need reprinting -- what packet do the students receive for filling out the yellow card? I just kept saying "more information").

Left are one Blair and one Peabody manual, which I had artificially limited on the table (wasn't enough space for everything!)... but the double-tablecloth was striking, and I was happy to represent a fair image of a school that *gasp* I became affiliated with almost eight years ago! It made me laugh explaining to a largely unfamiliar crowd the importance of EFCs and FAFSAs and the more brilliant things Vanderbilt has to offer, such as Alternative Spring Break; frisbee on Alumni lawn; and the lasting friendships shared from weeklong cramming sessions. Oh... college.

I had a great time, and will send back the collected cards. There were more parents circulating (without kids) than students, so lots of cards will probably end up mailed in... but the turn out was great, and I would definitely recommend sending *MORE* pamphlets to the bay area... the meetup in Orinda was fantastic, and I really enjoyed reflecting with students on their goals and fit in college. Are you in need of East Bay Area interviewers? I am free for one night each week, pretty much scheduled any time.

PS Stephanie E. (seXXXXX@XXXX.k12.ca.us) was interested in holding a college fair at her school. Also, a lady from Logan High School (Union City, CA 4000+ students) requested you send her posters to encourage students to pursue schools outside of California. Much like my Texas upbringing, I was unaware how large even our own small country is... I'd say 80% of people's first question was either "where is Vandy" or "what is your school known for" (what are we known for? aside from quips to dads about being the punching-bag of the SEC? NIH-grants in science? Highly regarded grad school programs (with internal combined programs)? Rising engineering department? etc. etc. etc.). The stand-up picture of our beautiful arboretum is going to be difficult to send back... BUT IT CERTAINLY LIT UP THE TABLE, and student who'd already visited recounted to their peers the campus beauty. So glad to hear Kissam is being razed... so sad I missed the Commons Experience!

I expect your financial aid section to get hit pretty hard with questions, as I touted the benefits of a school that recognizes the toxicity of student-endebtedness with loan forgiveness to qualifying graduates. That was pretty cool, wedged in between two schools that together got less than a year at Vandy. I certainly benefitted greatly from the Breckenridge Memorial Scholarship!!!

PSS Also, you know that crazy perspectualization: that as you age behind the ears, people of a remembered-time-period appear more and more juvenile?! I almost lost my mind until I realized that there was an entire class of eighth-graders running rampant, amongst; my best piece of advice to these kiddos was: "Have a great time in high school; remember to enjoy these next few years experiencing as many unforgettable memories as timely possible."

The parents all wince, understandingly.

Dear: The Daily Dot lunchroom team...

Some sassy editor had the gaul to not only question my citing of Reddit-stolen material (which they turn around and generate ad-revenue from largely un-original content), but also chose to ignore my simple requestion, which I'm quoting now, because that meeting is a matter of public record (thanks for the invite!) and I'm rarely a bad-ass:

Why not instead of coming and taking our original content, of which I am actively a contributing part of, even outside of reddit -- for example, if you've ever seen a MacBook with two hard drives installed inside... you probably read a snippet about my article in GadgetLab or (some other Condé Nast conglomerate), the highest-viewed article on this blog -- why not join our community, spend a few days learning our syntax; and possibly contribute a link or two... just to see how the knights of /r/new handle link-jacks

--Reid Sullivan, 23 September, 2011.

Then Michael gave it to them, raw:

So that said - let me give you some free advice/consultation, take from it what you will:
I'll tell you that you'll be met with a lot of skepticism from the reddit community. You are not the first blog-type site looking to cash in on social media and the large portion of redditors driving the direction of reddit will probably meet you with a bit of hostility. Redditors are a very fickle crowd and if you give them any reason to think you're using them for profit, they will backlash on you so hard that your head will spin. Do not ever give redditors a reason to label you as scum.
I don't know if your goal is to use reddit to drive views at all. Keep in mind that most of the stories that make it big on reddit are original content. People don't like reposts unless they're stupid memes or jokes. Your blog stories and reports will be seen as reposts on reddit, but worse, they will be seen as trying to cash in on the craze and this will be very transparent to the redditors in the /new queue, the ones that you have to get past to make it to the big numbers (of which I used to be a part of when I had more free time).
I know you noticed, but nobody cares about your site right now. If you want to grab readership, you'll have to do it by producing good content, you can't just sell the idea of it and expect it to motivate redditors to keep coming back.

I will cite you, if you actually give a shit ( I know you probably would rather remain Anonymous ).

Hobie Mirage, Drive

If you've got an extra two grand, or three (or perhaps: some REI points, of which I recently became a member, consider something fast like this.

I took some GoPro shots of this, but will have to wait for the battery to charge...

... when you add a paddle, things start getting intense. Quite possibly the best full-body exercising I've ever experience, and it's really a lot of fun. Highly recommended, and I have a medical marijuana card for low-back pain.

What, did you think it was ok to sell me a classic ii for 72.99 when you had it posted for less? Amazon approved the reimbursement because of that. I'm not sure that it even had to get your blessing first.

I initiated the refund, you extremely-uninformed, abusive, ungrateful bitch. I **also** am considering turning your information into a small claims suit for libel*, as I refunded the difference to an HONEST MISTAKE by REMOVING that posting. It is in error. Littmann does not make the Master Classic II S.E. -- it simply doesn't exist. AND I REFUNDED YOUR MONEY YOU IDIOT. Amazon had NOTHING to do with that.

With all necessary coordiality,

*but probably not, I've just never received negative feedback after ELEVEN YEARS on eBay, and probably not much longer on Amazon.

Just speaking my mind, you obviously think your own way.

Again, impetigo is a bitch. I am witching it your way.

Bottom line, I expected a different product since your posting had errors in it. My fault came in ordering a master classic littmann ii and not recognizing that the S.E didn't belong there...With that said, I can have the negative feedback retracted.

You're still a bitch.

Your artful fail.

Further, the Report says, "[t]he Advisory Committees on Criminal and Civil Rules unanimously, except for representatives of the Department of Justice, also opposed the new rules. Those committees also concluded that the new rules would permit the introduction of unreliable but highly prejudicial evidence and would complicate trials . . ."

Economically and socially, a tradesman's status is considered between a laborer and a professional, with a high degree of both practical and theoretical knowledge of their trade. In cultures where professional careers are highly prized there can be a shortage of skilled manual workers, leading to lucrative niche markets in the trades.

Thanks Wikipedia, for a great quote and reasonable degree.

◢I saw my father take us climbing, today

...and nobody does anything [about the corruption of money and politics in this country]... you know why? Corporations have never made more money than they are right now -- they wrote this [superfluous] tax code -- and they really don't give a damn about the rest of America.

~8:30 Buddy Roemer, 52nd governor of Louisiana, speaks an observant mind on the rate of our economy◣

Twelve angry climbers, shouting this-way-and-that, in observation of exhaustive gentlemanly mannerism. Slipping slowly above the protection on Castle Rock, an advancing boy -- burdened by an indigent father, the cliff-hanger below:

Upon their rack:
•Two ancient polemen belts, complete with clankity metal loops (which will catch you, until your arms slip through)
•Tennis shoes for Sonny Apeman, and Desert Storm era storm-troopers for Poppa Apeman
•27 feet of (static, I guess?) Ace [Hardware] nylon cord.

It's one thing to bend a few rules, here and there... heck, some of us Austinites learnt and still climb with nothing more than an ATC, thirty meters of quickdraws & rope, and the classic Swiss harness.
man, every other climber out here is really concerned about you an your son -- we just had to rescue some people earlier from this same route
you see, this keeps you from falling *away* from the rock, which is how you get hurt, not from falling down. I've ridden dirt bike for years -- crashed many of them -- and I'm still fine after 10 foot launches, you see!

...well you see, it's not really the same dynamics...

LISTEN: JUST SHOW ME HOW TO USE THIS DEVICE - I've used it before, just a really long time ago - AND WE'LL STAY OUT OF YOUR WAY

It makes me really uncomfortable that you're asking me this, but you'd need a carabiner to do this, anyways, so it doesn't even seem like you could even try. I don't think you understand how dangerous what you're doing is, but I'll go ahead and call the Medivac helicopter if you'd like...

Departing from that P.P.P.P.P.P scenario, and exiting past the ranger station, E and our group decided somebody with a badge might be listened to... just fifteen minutes behind us, we entered the opposing park, only to be re-awakened by trailing clankity-click-clacks...
THEY KICKED US OUT OVER ACROSS THE STREET - YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING OVER HERE [outside of the state park] IF WE CLIMB OUR OWN CERTAIN WAY, ARE YOU? Sees E and me... OH ...goodbye.
